Fighting Back, Winning Races, and Making History: Our 2024 Season So Far

With summer shutdown looming large on the F1 horizon, it has got us in reflective mood.

It has been a rollercoaster of emotions during the first 14 races of 2024, and there have been so many memorable moments to look back on.

History Maker

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is always special. This year, it was even more so. Lewis claimed his 104th career win nearly 950 days after his previous triumph in Saudi Arabia in 2021.

A record ninth British Grand Prix victory – the most by a driver at a single Grand Prix – will live long in the memory of everyone at Brackley and Brixworth.

In the week after, Lewis came into the factory to see the team, and to pose with all 10 British GP trophies Mercedes have claimed since first entering F1 in 1954.

The records did not stop there, though. Lewis became the first driver to claim 200 F1 podiums by finishing P3 in Hungary the following race. An incredible achievement from 345 starts.

Doubling Up

After the first few races of the season, victory before shutdown may have seemed unlikely.

But the dedication and effort of everyone at Brackley and Brixworth helped bring W15 closer to the front as we headed into the European season.

In Austria George was in prime position to inherit the lead when Max Verstappen and Lando Norris collided ahead.

George then held off a charging McLaren of Oscar Piastri behind to claim his second career win.

In crossing the line first, George became the second driver after Charles Leclerc to claim victory at the circuit at F3, F2, and F1 level.

All three wins have come with Mercedes backing, with George having first joined our junior programme in 2017.

Poles, Points, and Podiums

One word to describe the feeling among the team going into the summer break? Positivity.

Arriving in Montreal at the start of June, the team had amassed 96 points. Neither driver had stood on a Grand Prix podium so far in 2024.

Fast forward to now, and the upward trajectory is clear – 170 points, six podiums in six races with three wins and two pole positions.

Only McLaren have scored more constructor points in that time, and Lewis has outscored every other driver over the past five Grands Prix.

In the middle of all that there have been some great battles with the likes of McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull. The F1 grid is closer than it has been in years; we have loved being in the thick of it!

Junior Joy

There has been plenty to shout about in the junior formula.

Kimi Antonelli’s Formula 2 season has taken off in recent weeks, with a maiden win in the Silverstone Sprint race followed by a first Feature Race success two weeks later in Budapest.

He sits P6 in the standings after the first 10 rounds of the season.

The second season of F1 Academy started in Saudi Arabia in March, and saw every F1 team on the grid run their livery on a car.

Junior driver Doriane Pin was superb in Jeddah, taking two poles and a dominant race win to start her campaign strongly.

After victory in the season-opener, Lewis and the team were on hand to congratulate the French racer, who has also competed in WEC and FRECA so far this season.

Setting Sail

Before hitting the track in Barcelona, Toto, Lewis, and George spent time at the INEOS Britannia sailing base with skipper Sir Ben Ainslie and INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as the crew prepares for the 37th America's Cup later this year.

The trio were given a tour of the facilities before Toto and George joined Sir Ben and the team on the water.

The project has seen INEOS Sport and our own Applied Science division in Brackley come together to compete for the oldest international trophy in world sport.

WhatsApp, New York

What better way to launch an activation with a communications partner than by sending a big message to the world in one of the globe’s most vibrant cities.

That is what we did in May, launching our new emoji with partner WhatsApp in New York City, at the world-famous Empire State Building.

A day later, we made history, becoming the first team to demo an F1 car on Fifth Avenue in the heart of the city.

In the city that gave us Broadway, Lewis and W12 gave New York a show like no other.
